Henry Hyde, Lynn Woolsey Re-introduce Failed Child Support Bill Congress Attempts to Increase IRS Involvement in Private Lives
April 19, 1999
On April 15, 1999 - aka Tax Day - Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) along with Rep. Henry Hyde (R-IL) had the gall to introduce legislation that would increase the scope, power and likelihood of abuse by the IRS. The Compassion for Children and Child Support Enforcement Act as it is called would put the IRS in charge of collecting child support. "I can understand why a liberal like Woolsey would like this, its more government, more taxes, more interference in the private lives of Americans. But for Republican Henry Hyde to support this seems odd. In the past several years, the GOP stuck a chord with the American people when they opened up hearings on IRS abuses. Its simply amazing that they would now turn around and increase the IRS power," noted Lowell Jaks, Director of ANCPR. "Its ironic that in the Congressional Record that same day, many Congressmen spoke out against the dangers of IRS," added Jaks. Rep. Gibbons (R-NV): "the power to tax is the power to destroy." Rep. Traficant (D-OH) talked of abolishing the IRS. Rep. Schaffer (R-CO): called April 15 "a high holy day for all the social engineers, the central planners, and the big government liberals who worship at the altar of bureaucracy. Child support policy has been a failure since its introduction in 1975. ANCPR promotes a complete overhauling of family law to eliminate the greed and revenge associated with child support and custody. ###### ANCPR Fact Sheets (2 pages) attached. |
