But the way people actually answer the questions is as follows:
A close look at what people mean by "Certain Circumstances" shows that they approve of abortion: A) if a woman's life is in danger, B) if the woman may suffer severe physical damage, C) if there is a chance the baby will be born deformed, or D) in the event of rape or incest. They disapprove of abortion if the family cannot afford to have the child, or if the woman wants the abortion for just any reason. Less than 1% of all abortions fall into category A, B, C, or D, which means that the 57% who say it should be "legal under certain circumstances" actually approve of 1% of abortions and disapprove of 56% of them. It's extremely disingenuous for scientists to lump all 57% of these opinions under the "legal" category when the respondents actually replied that 73% of all abortions should be "illegal". | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
