Manifesto Forum--Helping Debra Blow
Debra Blow wrote "To all Deadbeat Dads":
I am sure I don't have to remind any of you what time of the year it
is.
Myself and many other moms have chased you, pleaded with you, and begged
you to pay the child maintenance the courts have ordered you to pay
each
month, to no avail. (If you really think about it these payments don't
even begin to take care of the child!)
Now Christmas is upon us and we're stressed and worried about how we'll
make ends meet. Will we be able to afford that special toy that our
child wants so badly, or will we even be able to afford to cook
Christmas dinner for them? I personally work five-six days a week,
10
hours a day (for a very low wage) to support my three kids with no
help
from anyone. It angers and hurts me to have to say no when my children
want something special and it doesn't fit into our budget. If the
deadbeat dads would pay the maintenance every month, this would reduce
some of the strain not only for the moms but for the children too.
So all you deadbeat dads (and you know who you are) while you are having
Christmas dinner I want you to ponder on what your child is having
for
dinner - macaroni, hot dogs, or soup and sandwiches - and did you even
contribute to this?
Have a Merry Christmas.

Now! We know that children from single-mother
households, compared to children of two-parent households where the father
is present, are more likely to go to prison by 8 times, to commit suicide
by 5 times, to have behavioral problems by 20 times, to become rapists
by 20 times, to run away by 32 times, to abuse chemical substances by 10
times, to drop out of high school by 9 times, to be seriously abused by
33 times, to be fatally abused by 73 times, to be one tenth as likely to
get A's in school, and to have a 72% lower standard of living.
How do you propose to resolve this mother's
crisis?
