"Child Custody Awards" Per the Census Bureau http://www.childstats.gov/ac1998/pop5.htm these are the "official" figures for the type of household that American children live in today:
*The entire 4% of "Father only" could be unmarried biological parents living together, considering how many men are now refusing to marry even after they have children with their girl friends. Also, the official disclaimer says that "Two parents" includes biological mothers and stepfathers. What we know about the way they do this, it most likely also includes "biological mother, live in boyfriend", which of course is known to be where children are 72 times more likely to be "fatally abused" than in "families" http://www.crosswinds.net/san-diego/~manifesto/heritage.htm Also, children who grow up in stepfather households actually don't fare much better than children who grow up in SMHs, so lumping these together is disingenuous at best http://www.crosswinds.net/san-diego/~manifesto/ca.htm But here is the REAL kicker. CNN did a separate poll recently and found that only 51% (NOT 68%) of children lived with "Two parents". YCBYSA that this 17% difference is--da, da, SMHs!! http://cnn.com/us/9911/24/changingfamilies.ap/index.html Furthermore, children who live only with their fathers include widowers (who by themselves are 2% of the population), households where the mothers abandoned the family, are institutionalized, or are drug or alcohol abusers. Adjusting for all of these other factors produces the following more accurate percentages:
