Dor Means Race, not Generations And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. Gen 17:7
Gen 17:7 And I will establish6965 (853) my covenant1285 between996 me and thee and thy seed2233 after310 thee in their generations1755 for an everlasting5769 covenant,1285 to be1961 a God430 unto thee, and to thy seed2233 after310 thee. We see from this Scripture that generations is translated from the Hebrew word dor, which is also translated as posterity in Numbers 9:10, and that seed is translated from the Hebrew word zera which also means posterity:
do^r do^r dore, dore From H1752; properly a revolution of time, that is, an age or generation; also a dwelling: - age, X evermore, generation, [n-]ever, posterity. zera? zeh'-rah From H2232; seed; figuratively fruit, plant, sowing time, posterity: - X carnally, child, fruitful, seed (-time), sowing-time.
If we were to accept that both dor and zera mean posterity, this Scripture would read:
This makes no sense. The only way this could be worded to make any sense is for dor to mean race rather than posterity:
This also makes it far easier to understand the everlasting covenant that God made with Abraham through Jacob, as well as clarifies the meaning of Numbers 9:10:
Such an understanding makes it possible to comprehend what's meant by the following Scripture:
"In your generations" means "of your race", "stranger" means a "foreigner" [read: an Israelite from another Tribe, country, or city], and "seed" means "posterity":
Without knowing that the word stranger is translated from the Hebrew word "ne^ka^r" which means foreigner, and that that foreigner must be an Israelite to be in accord with the Israelite concepts of holy people, holy spirit, and racial purity, we would believe that non-Israelites were permitted to live in Israelite communities and were required to be circumcised. Gen 17:9 And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy posterity after thee in their race. Exo 30:21 So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they die not: and it shall be a statute forever to them, Exo 12:14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your race; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever. Exo 12:17 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your race by an ordinance forever Exo 12:42 It is a night to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their race. Lev 7:36 Which the LORD commanded to be given them of the children of Israel, in the day that he anointed them, by a statute forever throughout their race. Num 10:8 And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for an ordinance forever throughout your race. Num 15:23 Even all that the LORD hath commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day that the LORD commanded Moses, and henceforward among your race; Jdg 3:2 Only that the race of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof; Psa 33:11-12 The counsel of the LORD standeth forever, the thoughts of his heart to all the race. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. Psa 119:90 Thy faithfulness is unto all the race: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth. Isa 41:4 Who hath wrought and done it, calling the race from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he. Isa 58:12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many races; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. |
