England
When Margaret Thatcher took office in 1979 "the sun didn't set on the British Empire". Now it does. All of England's former colonies are now independent of England. When she took office, industrial growth in England since WWII had rivaled that of the US and Germany--but when "falling on unpopular times, she resigned as prime minister in Nov. 1990" that industrial growth was almost transparent. When she took office, 4.7 women per 1,000 married English women got divorced, but by the time she left office, this rate had quadrupled to 18.6. The year she took office there were 1,488 women raped in England, but the year she left office there were 5,039 women raped, greater than a three fold increase. When she took office, women were not ordained as priests and there were 72% more men priests than there are now, thanks exclusively to her influence in getting women priests ordained. England's divorce rate by the end of her term was almost as high as the US divorce rate, it was twice as high as Belgium, France, Germany, and Netherlands, four times higher than Japan's, and nine times higher than Italy's. To add insult to injury, this once great empire scored only 8 points higher than the US on TIMSS math (508), but without the rapid growth in the number of minorities who are participating in this test in the US who significantly reduced our score.

Compared to England, the US crime rate in 1980, the latest year for which all of the following data was available, was higher in every category except Motor Vehicle Theft and Sex Crime. Our murder rate was 8.5 times higher, our Rape rate was 15 times higher, our Robbery rate was 8.5 times higher, our Assault rate was twice as high, our Burglary rate was 10% higher, our Theft rate was 30% higher, our Drug Crime rate was 7.3 times higher, and our Fraud rate was 6.4 times higher. No data was available for Larceny, and it's not clear that England has laws against "child abuse" and "drinking and driving", but the average overall rate for data which was available showed that the US had a crime rate 5.2 times higher than England (excluding Child Abuse and Drinking and Driving). A comparison made by the Bureau of Justice Statistics between the crime rates of the US and England & Wales omitted 8 of the above categories, and included only 6, of which two were the crimes which were higher in England. This is extremely and intentionally misleading, as our prison population has quadrupled since then, from 500,000 inmates in 1980 to 2 million in 2000.
