Why was the following omitted from the above Wikipedia table? "In the Civil War, the Union lost 364,511 men against the South's 133,821 dead; in other words, the North lost almost three times the men the South did!" Lincoln said: "I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and black races. There is a physical difference between the two, which, in my judgment, will probably forever forbid their living together upon the footing of perfect equality; and inasmuch as it becomes a necessity that there must be a difference, I ... am in favor of the race to which I belong having the superior position." That rather sounds like a white supremacist.
During the Civil War, Lincoln decided, after much agonizing, to declare that slaves in the seceding states were free. The Emancipation Proclamation didn’t apply to slaves in the states that remained within the Union. So it didn’t really “free the slaves.” It had little immediate effect on slaves in the Confederacy, of course, since they were beyond Lincoln’s reach. Wags quipped that Lincoln had freed the slaves he couldn’t help, while doing nothing for the slaves he could have helped.

[mailto:israeliteid First of all you must remember that slavery was an institution. In other words it was well established throughout the world for centuries. The practice is still going on in our own time in the middle east, Africa, and Asia. That kind of figures. This is why the Bible doesn't condemn slavery. The Pilgrims bought slaves, but that doesn't make them slave owners. The Pilgrims bought slaves to free them. You must remember that Virginia, Jefferson's home state, was the first state to prohibit slavery. The governor Patrick Henry introduced legislation in the Virginia parliament prohibiting slavery. The legislation was passed unanimously on October 5, 1778. The other southern colonies followed suit shortly there after. Only Florida and West Florida didn't prohibit slavery, and that is why they were not allowed to be with the other colonies. Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia wanted to extend their colonies to the Mississippi River. King George III refused to let them do this, and he sent Creoles into the area. The reason for this is because slavery was more prominent in Florida and West Florida (West Florida eventually became the states of Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and eastern Texas. It should also be mentioned that the south was the first to have paid labor. Many of those pictures of black slaves picking cotton that you see; those black slaves were probably paid labor. Also, blacks in slavery were bought from black tribes off the coast of Africa. White slaves were kidnapped from European countries by the Jews. Since blacks were expensive to own; in most cases they weren't put out in the field to do back breaking labor, but used in domestic servitude. Generally if they were beaten, it was because they committed a crime. In the movie "Glory" in one scene a union officer rips open the back of a black soldiers shirt revealing the welts and scars of whip and beating that the man endured. However, if the movie was to be truthful about the slavery at that time, it should have revealed the backs of the white union soldiers. They had more welts and scars from the beating they took while they were in slavery. Whites were in slavery in this country before blacks were, and they were treated far worse. It is actually better to say that whites are more likely to be Descendants of slavery than blacks. Whites at that time were called, "crackers," and "rednecks," because of the type of hard labor that they had to endure. In fact, they were called this by blacks who didn't have to endure such hard labor. Whites were also the first to be auctioned in the colonies, and the whites went out of their way to stop and do a way with slavery. This was actually accomplished by the end of the 18th. Century in the south. Plantations in the had south still servitude and those that worked in the cotton fields, but they were probably paid labor. It should also be mentioned that the Jews were actually the slave drivers and slave masters; and they had plantations in the north and the south. The Jews change their names all the time to hide the fact that they are Jews. One Jew by the name of Lopez was one of the biggest slave sellers in the slave business in the 16th. Century. You will find that the plantations that had slaves were actually Jewish owned. There were many black owned plantations before and during the Civil War as well. When Sherman marched to the sea, one of his cavalry troop stopped at a plantation in North Carolina and saw a black woman standing in the front of the mansion. The officer that was the head of the cavalry troop asked her where her master was, she stated what master. He said, the one that owns the plantation. She told him, I have no master; I own the plantation. He and the rest of his calvary trooped laughed at her and then burned the plantation down to the ground. Frederick Douglass would give speeches about how he was mistreated when he was a slave on the plantation, and that it was because of that mistreatment that he ran a way from the plantation. What he didn't tell anyone was that the plantation he ran a way from was in Maryland and was owned by a black family. Frederick Douglass's second wife was white. In 1885 his first wife died. He went through what was supposed to be a year of mourning. In 1886 he took his white secretary and forced her to marry her. Most of the whites and blacks that knew him spoke out against him marrying her. He basically beat her and raped her, this is how blacks force themselves on women, especially white women. When Douglass died in 1896, his wife jumped for joy. The truth is, blacks were the first to put their own people in slavery and they were the most savage. No Jefferson was not a slave owner; if he was, he would have been in violation of Virginia state law.
