Yearly Average of Monthly Receipts and Disbursements per Household by Yearly Income Quintile Group and Number of Household Members (Workers' Households)

Average receipts per household in Japan in 2001 was 1,040,564 yen per month or 12,486,768 yen per year, which at 119 yen to the dollar is $104,931 per year.  Of that, 53% or $55,579 was income, 39.1% or $41,060 was receipts other than income (which included $36,805 in cashed savings deposits), and 7.9% was a carry over from previous months.

The income of $55,579 included $51,865 for the household head, $5,286 for the wife, $1,217 for other household members, $436 for business and homework, $85 in returns from assets, $2,053 in social security benefits, and $1,082 in non-current income.

Living expenditure was 32.2% of average receipts, or $33,786, non-living expenditure[read: taxes] was 8.3% or $8,716, earned income tax
