loose and bind
Based SOLELY on the following verses, the "church" claims that Jesus gave
them unlimited authority--authority to make and abolish God's Laws in ways that not even
God nor Jesus themselves had:
Mat 18:14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little
ones should perish.
Mat 18:15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
Mat 18:16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
Mat 18:17 And if he shall neglect
to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican.
Mat 18:18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Mat 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
However, let's put the above RED LETTER part of the Holy Bible, Jesus' Own Words,
into context with what we KNOW both God and Jesus said about God's Law:
Ye shall not add unto
the word which I command you, neither shall ye
diminish aught from it, that ye may keep the
commandments of the LORD your God which I command you, Deuteronomy 4:2
And if any man obey
not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be
ashamed. 2 Thessalonians 3:14
You know the commandments: `Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not
steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.' Mark 10:19 [red letters]
For Moses said, 'Honor
your father and your mother;' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put
to death.' Mark 7:10
For God said, Give honour to your father and mother: and, He who says evil
of father or mother will be put to death. Matthew
15:4
Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of
these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us,
so that there should be no remnant nor escaping? Ezra 9:14
And they
gave their hands that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they
offered a ram of the flock for their trespass. Ezra 10:19
Enter ye in at the strait
gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many
there be which go in thereat: Matthew
7:13
Thou shalt make
no covenant with them,
nor with their gods. They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin
against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee. Exodus
23:32-33
And I will establish my
covenant between me and thee [Abraham] and thy seed after thee in their generations for an
everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

hath confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant, 1 Chronicles 16:16-17

the sake of your tradition? Matthew

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Matthew 10:34
Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: Luke 12:51
But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them,
bring hither, and slay them before me. Luk 19:27
And this day shall be unto you
for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye
shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever. Exo
12:14 36
And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou
shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.Leviticus 20:16
A
mamzer shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD;
even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD,
Deuteronomy 23:2
An
Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD;
even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD forever: Deuteronomy 23:3
He said in
reply, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
Matthew 15:24
He that turneth away his ear from hearing the Torah, even his
prayer [shall be] abomination, Proverbs 28:9
But
heaven and earth will come to an end before the smallest tittle of The Torah may be
dropped out. Luke 16:17 [red letters]
But we know that the Torah is good, if a man use it lawfully;1Ti 1:8
For circumcision verily profiteth, if
thou keep the Torah: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is
made uncircumcision, Romans 2:25
Do we
then make void The Torah through faith? By no means: but we establish The Torah, Romans 3:31
But the Torah
is holy, and its orders are
holy, upright, and good. Romans 7:12
Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love [is] fully preaching the Torah, Romans 13:10
And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit,
which God has given to those who obey him, Acts 5:32
He who says, "I know him," and does not keep His commandments,
is a liar, and the truth is not in him, I John 2:4
So He said to [the rich young ruler], "Why do you call Me good? No
one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the
commandments." Matthew 19:17
If you love Me, keep My commandments, John 14:15
Do
not think that I am come to destroy The Torah, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy,
but to fully preach*, Matthew 5:17 [red letters]
Ye shall do no unrighteousness
in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the
mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou
judge thy neighbor, Leviticus 19:15
Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid
of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you,
bring it unto me, and I will hear it, Deuteronomy 1:17
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with
unrighteousness?, 2 Corinthians 6:14

name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw

Be sure of this, that no fornicator, or mamzer, or one who is covetous
(that is, an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God Ephesians
5:5
The LEAST Jesus would have expected of His Disciples, and the LEAST His Disciples would
have expected that Jesus expected of them, is that THEY uphold God's Law [not "loose
and bind" it] in determining whether or not an Israelite was a sinner.
It's clear from the context above that "loose and bind" can ONLY refer to one
who fellow Israelites believe is in violation of God's Law--not to dismantling one of
God's Laws simply because the church found it inconvenient, obsolete, irritating, too
demanding, racist, sexist, other otherwise objectionable.
The ONLY thing that the church could be called upon to decide is whether or not such an
Israelite is in violation of God's Law, and whether he should be treated "as a
heathen and a publican"--NOT whether or not one of God's Laws ought to be summarily
dismantled.
