To add insult to injury, last year, Rep. Cannon accepted an award from MALDEF, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund. MALDEF's co-founder has said, "California is going to be a Hispanic state and anyone who doesn't like it should leave. They should go back to Europe." (Mario Obledo, June, 1998).
