Discrimination in Medical School Admissions Medical College Admissions Test Scores
In order for women to be admitted to
California medical schools, affirmative action required that more highly qualified men be
denied admission, considerably lowering the overall average skills of the medical
profession. These scores suggest that this lowering of skills is in the range of
more than 20%. The actual distribution of MCAT scores is most likely similar to the
distribution of GRE Physics Scores for Applicants to the University
of Texas, Austin:
Assume that the distribution of MCAT scores is equivalent to the distribution for GRE Physics Scores. If a medical school were required to accept the top 10% of the applicants, then it would accept no women. If it were required to accept the top 40% of applicants, it would accept 169 men and only 3 women. If it accepted the top 50% of all applicants, the only way it could accept more than 1% women would be to illegally discriminate against more qualified men. To add insult to injury, the MCAT test doesn't even
correlate with tests which measure critical thinking
skills, something that is MANDATORY for doctors, yet most other standardized tests do
correlate, very well. The result is that more than 65% of all college admissions are
women today, and this is happening at the expense of more qualified men. The
taxpayer, the education system, the economy, and industry all suffer significantly as a
consequence. |
