The Grand Religious GapNature, not Nurture
The intellectual gap between Eastern states and most other states as reflected by their 198 point lower SAT scores is more than just a race or gender gap as reflected by the news media--it's an 18 IQ point gap between Whites in mostly White states like Iowa and North Dakota, and those in the Eastern states claiming to be "Whites". The charts below are for the two decades between 1976 to 1995, but the trend continues to this day, with Whites in Iowa scoring 615 in SAT Verbal and 636 in SAT Math (for a total of 1251) in 2004, compared to "Whites" in New York scoring 520 in SAT Verbal and 533 in SAT Math (for a total of 1053): and a Grand Whopping Religious Gap of 198 SAT points, the equivalent of 18 IQ points. The exact same phenomenon is illustrated between countries in PISA scores, where 13 year olds in mostly Catholic countries like Italy, Portugal, and Spain routinely score 70 to 100 PISA points lower than 13 year olds in mostly Protestant countries like Belgium, the Netherlands, and Australia. By necessity, these primarily Catholic states and countries become welfare states because they lack the creative ability to develop and sustain successful cultures without outside help from Protestant states and countries. They bring immense social pathology into former Protestant states and countries when they insinuate their way into our cultures and education policies--with murder, divorce, abortion, and incarceration rates increasing ten fold or more, and personal savings rates, household incomes, and religious freedom plunging or even completely disappearing. While they CLAIM to oppose abortion, the abortion rates in some mostly Catholic states like Rhode Island are 7 times higher than mostly Protestant states like Utah (60 vs. 8 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15-44).
