The distribution curves of the time that it takes for both sexes to run the 100 meter race provides some insight into the fundamental differences between the sexes. The data from USA Track and Field, the national governing body for track & field, long-distance running, and race walking, shows that the slowest man in the 100 meter run is 5.3% faster than the fastest woman. More importantly, the spread between the fastest woman and the slowest woman (5.9%) is about equal to the spread between the fastest woman and the slowest man, whereas the spread between the fastest man and the slowest man (4.8%) is smaller. The point is that there are numerous men who are much faster than the fastest woman. Some 11-12 year old boys run faster than some of the women, 13-14 year old boys run as fast as the fastest women, and there are numerous 15-18 year old boys who run much faster than the fastest women.
