KSDK-For the second time in a month, Vashon High School erupted in student violence, and some parents are calling for answers.

At 1:30 p.m., Vashon High School was in lockdown.

Students say what started as a fight between ten girls in the cafeteria quickly spread to other parts of the high school involving, police say, more than 100 students.

"Fights broke out through 1st lunch, 2nd, and 3rd lunch and the last lunch. That's when everybody started going crazy," says Senior Lakisha Jackson.

A school security officer called police for backup.

K-9 units and dozens of St. Louis Police officers quickly gained control. Breaking up fights, they say, in the halls and stairwells of the school.

Several students were taken into custody but were later released into their parents' care.

The school has been plagued with fights and disturbances.

Senior Jessie Johnson thinks she knows why. "Everyday we gotta go through something, because I think they let the same people back in there, the same people that are fighting," says Johnson.

Worried parents waited outside for their children, as a police helicopter circled over head.

Shirley Hubbard raced to pick her two daughters up. "They called me in a panic and said, Mom there's a riot going on up here," said Hubbard.

St. Louis Public Schools Public Information Officer Johnny Little admits the school has a problem. He met with a group of Vashon Parents while police kept order.

"We did let the parents know we want they're support. We want for them to be involved with their children," Little told reporters.

St. Louis School District officials say there were no serious injuries reported.

The students involved in the fights now face expulsion.
